Artist Statement
My work investigates the intersection of memory, perception, and the subconscious. Through an intuitive image-making process, I translate fleeting impressions—those that arise just beneath conscious awareness—into visual form. These moments are transient and often ambiguous, yet they carry emotional weight and psychological presence.
Using a combination of ink, resin, encaustic, gouache, acrylic, and digital photography, I build layered surfaces that evoke a sense of depth and dimensionality on a two-dimensional plane. Light is central to my practice: it activates the work, enriches color, and enhances texture, making each piece visually immersive and sensorially charged. Thus intensifying the visual impact, making each piece a dynamic presence in any space Figurative and abstract elements coexist within the compositions, hinting at archetypal imagery and personal narrative. My work invites viewers to pause, reflect, and engage with the ambiguity—allowing space for personal interpretation and emotional resonance. By merging material richness with conceptual inquiry, I aim to create pieces that not only speak to the inner landscape but also harmonize with the environments in which they reside. At the heart of my practice is a desire to capture the beauty of a moment—whether ephemeral or enduring. Whether placed in intimate residential settings or curated commercial interiors, my work is designed to resonate deeply, offering a sense of quiet intrigue and timeless allure. - Julia Abbott Artist/Photographer/ Image-Maker |
